A Deeper Look: Float

Upon request I’ve provided a deeper look regarding the last piece that I wrote, “Float”.

Life is often compared to an ocean, a vast expanse of openness with a great deal of unknowns, potentially devastating tragedies, and other problems that arise. Much like an ocean with it’s squalls and storms life is also full of the unknown. The tendency when faced with such a daunting and intimidating environment is to be overtaken with fear; to allow this fear to cripple and keep you from living life as you could. It is much easier to sit in the harbor, or on the shore, and stare wistfully at the water and never set out in faith and hope. I wanted to portray that feeling of nervous trepidation while at the same time speak to the thing that overcomes those fears: love.

Love empowers and encourages you to take risks you would not normally take, to boldly and bravely face those fears and trust in something bigger than the ocean of life surrounding you. In “Float” I wanted to bring to the surface the power of love, to instill the feeling that indeed, though fearful and unsure, I trust so completely in love and in “us” that I would face those fearful unknown problems. I would take the risk of placing my heart out in the open, out among the storms of relationships, the waves of worry, and the sinking feelings of unrequited love, all for the opportunity that I would find in you a love returned. I put faith in someone other than myself. I put faith in the professed love of another and step out into the sea of life.
